Microdrilling & micromilling

With Micro EDM:
Precision machining
up to 10 μm

Microdrilling, micromilling and micro-EDM for the highest precision. Using Micro EDM (Micro Electrical Discharge Machining), we produce micro-holes, micro-channels, cavities and complex 3D microstructures in almost all electrically conductive metals – with precision, free of burrs and with consistent results.

Whether in medical technology, toolmaking, aerospace, precision engineering or research – micro EDM enables geometries that are often no longer achievable using conventional drilling or milling.

Retero GmbH specialises in the micro-machining of high-precision metal components. With over 20 years’ experience, we manufacture components with tolerances in the micrometre range for demanding sectors such as medical technology, the watchmaking industry and precision engineering.

Thanks to fine-wire-erosion (micro-EDM), we machine metals of any hardness with the utmost precision, enabling us to bring even the most demanding projects to fruition. Swiss precision, cutting-edge technology and uncompromising quality make Retero a reliable partner for high-end applications.

Our commitment to quality is confirmed by our ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 (medical devices) certifications.

Wir sind ISO-Zertifiziert durch die Schweizerische Vereinigung für Qualitäts- und Management-Systeme nach ISO 9001 und ISO 13485 (Medizintechnikzertifizierung).

Definition

What is micro EDM?

Micro EDM (micro-erosion), also known as micro-drilling and micro-milling, is a high-precision manufacturing process for producing the finest micro-holes and microstructures. The material is removed by controlled electrical discharges – without contact and without mechanical cutting forces. Unlike conventional drilling or milling, no high tool forces are generated. This allows even the smallest bores, delicate contours and complex 3D geometries to be produced with the highest precision – regardless of the material’s hardness.

An overview of the benefits

Why choose micro EDM over conventional drilling
or milling?

As tool sizes decrease, the stresses on tools during drilling and milling increase significantly. Tool breakage, vibrations, restricted chip removal and high wear limit the achievable precision and cost-effectiveness.
